Bird Island
Bird Island is not only one of the world’s top eco-holiday destinations. In short it’s also a paradise island, where visitors can appreciate the conservation of wildlife in the most beautiful, tranquil setting and escape the hassles and chaos of ordinary life!
Liying on the edge of the Seychelles continental shelf, Bird island is the most northerly island of the Seychelles archipelago and renowned for its sea bird colonies. From the international airport on Mahé to Bird Island is about 30 minutes by plane.
As its name suggests, the island is also a successful wildlife reserve and ecologically important haven for birds, where up to 2 million sooty terns come to roost every year and where endemic land birds are also present.
The 24 chalets of this eco-lodge –the staff and guests of which are the only humans inhabiting the tiny coral island – offer comfortable accommodation but on nature’s terms: without television, telephone or air-conditioning, for guests to make the most of the environment during their stay.
Rooms
Bird Island, Seychelles features an eco-lodge of 24 simple but comfortable individual chalets, nestled among the remaining coconut palms of the island's old plantation.
The chalets are dotted along the western coast of the island, overlooking the natural parkland and on, to the turquoise clear waters.
Each bungalow has four-poster beds with mosquito nets, ceiling fan, room safe, lounge area (converts to extra bed for third adult or child) and a large shower room and separate toilet and verandah.
Please note:
- At Bird Island Lodge, there is no air conditioning, no fridges, telephones or televisions in the rooms so that power usage per chalet may be kept to a minimum.
- Each chalet has 13A UK standard socket outlets. Continental adaptors are available (from reception).
General facilities
Bird Island Lodge has a library and a boutique. There is a wide range of hand printed t-shirts, shorts and sarongs for both adults and children.
Essentials such as shampoo, and sun cream are also always available as well as postcards and stamps.
For those who need to fax or to e-mail a message the complex has facilities (at cost). Also can Bird Island Lodge provide a service for laundry (at cost).
If you have small children the lodge can provide a baby sitting service (at cost).
Activities
Bird Island offers a variety of activities to guests
Bird Island has over five kilometers of the finest white sandy beaches. Bird Island has no swimming pool but a beach offering excellent and safe swimming.
For sure Bird Island is first of all to watch the birds, but the complex has also Kayak and snorkeling equipment (at cost) available.
For those who prefer some relaxing activity the complex has a Billard/Pool and Indoor Board games.
Furthermore you can book a nature tour or go with a boat (at cost) to explore the (underwater) world around the island or enjoy the game fishing (at cost).
Restaurants/bars
The main hotel reception area consists of a lobby lounge, bar and restaurant, which serves local cuisine in a buffet-style and in an informal setting using fresh products – including fresh fish and vegetables from the island.
All meals are served in the open-sided restaurant, overlooking the lawn towards the sea.
The rare delicacy of birds eggs, strictly controlled for conservation purposes, are offered seasonally for breakfast.
In keeping with the island’s approach to offering an authentic island experience, the cuisine is served by the lodge’s 100% Seychellois team.
A mere stone's throw from West Beach, a relaxed bar and lounge is the obvious place to enjoy an afternoon tea or a pre-dinner cocktail, within earshot of the waves lapping the shore.
Let the barman whip you up an enticing cocktail, or why not experience one of our local brews. Let any tensions dissolve here, as you catch up with friends made on the island.
Please note Gentlemen are requested to wear long trousers in the bar and restaurant after 1900hrs.
Specials
Flights to and from Bird Island To and from Bird Island there is a regular flight. Note: Indian Ocean Travel cannot be held responsible for guests who misses their charter flights due to late arrival of international flights. Full cancellation will apply. In addition the cost of the seat on the next available flight may be charged.
Luggage Allowance : Due to aircraft size, please note that guests are allowed 15kg per person maximum. Excess baggage may be accepted on the same flight depending.
